SPORT, adventure & CULTURE

Sporting Activities

The staff at this school encourage sporting activities, especially the idea of being a member of a team. Teachers are very happy to co-ordinate teams, skills training and organisation for team sports, but we are reliant on parent participation for mid-week and Saturday games. The following sporting opportunities are likely to be available
  • In-line Hockey and turf hockey
  • Basketball and netball
  • Cricket and soccer
  • Cross Country
  • Rugby and touch rugby

Swimming

Swimming is part of our curriculum and we expect children to swim every day. Opportunities are made for a lunch time swim for Years 3 - 6 children. It is expected that all children can self manage - have a plastic bag for their togs, have a towel, can change themselves and can take care of their clothes in a change room situation. Please name all swim gear so we can return misplaced items. Teachers do not permit children who have open cuts, or school sores, to swim.

Outdoor Education (EOTC)

Throughout the year, children will be involved in activities, which include sporting exchanges, cultural activities, study trips and camps. These are advertised well in advance through school, and team newsletters. There could be a cost involved with each of these activities. A one-off parental permission form is completed upon enrolment to cover trips during the year.

Cultural Activities

When staffing and/or parent support is available, the school provides the opportunity for children to participate in the following cultural activities:
  • Kapa haka
  • Choir
  • Dance
  • School Performance
Marfell Kapa Haka in 2016

Feel free to contact Marfell Community School, we'd love to hear from you.
